La Jolla 10/29 AMs

Slept till 6:00AM. Got it all wrong, thought that was going to be 5:00AM old time. Yeah right.

No swell, easy launch.

Some downhill current. Bait was though. I scraped 3 jumbo smelt and 5-6 spanish right in the kelp… I would get to “fly” only one of those smelt. Other 2 flew out of my bait tank. Literally.

I rode NE wind down the kelp line. Kind of winterish out there. With some fog, even Halloween-ish.

Hooked up with Jasmin at ¾. Slow for both. A sculpin and short ling (iron), and a bone on the surface is all we connected with.

It was really nice after 10:00ish. The wind died.

Mostly worked lower column, lotta iron. Nothing.

Lots of floating eal grass, pain.

Amazingly clear. I was looking at my salas 50ft below.

Deep clear blue nothing blues continues.

Yeah - at the beach, big thick school of something was chillin’ in the breakers.

Reminded me of cipol, down from Adriatic. Couldn’t really get a good look at it. Got some pics tho.

What kind of fish is it? Good to eat (ok, out of the reserve)?

Thanks for the report Adi. I'm not sure, but those fish might be yellow fin or spot fin croakers. I never ate one, but they are a blast to catch on light tackle. I've seen them ride the waves like in your pics, but never in thsose numbers. Great pics!

Pretty sure it was a big school of mullet. I saw a few come all the way out of the water. First time I've ever seen more than one or two at LJ though. They were thick. You never know what you're going to see out there.

This is my favorite site and never had anything to say because I live in the OC. But, I know those fish that you took pictures of are mullets. They get pretty big and run in big school. Ive seen snaggers get them in the pier.

Adi what are the requirements to be part of the LAMB crew?

I agree with the mullet ID. They showed up last Fall, thick in the surf as well.

I am so sorry you did not catch a yellowtail, Mr Lamb. You must be going crazy for some fresh fish

Tuesday you are going down!

They're baby whales. If you look at the first picture, kind of at the bottom of the wave in the left-center you can see one of them spouting. The waves must have been a little bigger than you're saying.

baby whales they were!

Mullet, ha. THnx.

I checked the pics - it looks like cipol, this fish I knew from Adriatic. We used to catch them using bread as bait. Pretty sure it's the same fish.

I'm working on 200 page instructional booklet on how to apply for The Lamb Crew. Bare with me.

I forgot to add my Sunday PM report for Del Mar. It was WFO at the fairgrounds. Grannies were hitting anything shiny at the Harvest Festival

All right JR. 8)

You gotta start by playing WCW. It's mandatory. :P

I was going to go fish with Andy tomorrow, so he is not bored. But Baja daemons have eaten 3 of my reels.

That’s fine tho.

I’d send all 3 in service again for the same trip.
