Rockfish opening day Newport 2019

Sorry for the late report . Fished Newport for Rockfish opener. Got to the launch at exactly 5:50 AM expecting to see somewhat of a crowd… Crickets. Sweeeet. One other yakker showed up at about 615, talk to him but he said he was going to be fishing in front of Corona Del Mar. even leaving the bay, only saw the Freelance heading out. No one inside fishing and literally no one as far as I could see in my area of operation. Around 9 AM there was a whale watching boat and tour boat following a massive Grey. Always cool to see. Barely any breeze and minimal current. Fished between 150’ and 190’. My leftover, nearly 4 mmonth old squid worked just fine lol. Got limits of reds, on the smaller side mostly with a couple decent ones. Also picked up three nice turd rollers with a couple of them being hogs. Done at 10:15 and headed back inside to play with some Spotties. Had some friends over that night for tacos and now they’re all gone so next break in the weather I’m gonna be right back out there .

X2 I'd be pumped for the easy launch.

Room for one more person? I’ve been fishing the harbors for a bit and want to try my luck outside of it. Just really wanna bring home some fish to eat.
