"LEAVE THIS AREA NOW!"...butt I'm fishing..

Got “escorted” out of an aircraft carrier’s path. Turned out I wasn’t going to be out of their “minimum distance” requirement so Coast Guard AND Navy Security stayed on top of me until the carrier passed! These people were pumped up..."GET OUT OF THIS AREA NOW!" Ummm okay, I'll start paddling but I don't think I'll get very far very quickly...I was lucky enough to cinch up a 17.2# butt before all of the drama...

"The Boss" and I were at the Midway yesterday and we saw Mr. Vinson and Mr. Stennis ported at North Island. They are BIG, even from across the Bay. In open ocean you could probably surf the wake coming off one of those.

We saw a couple in a tandem paddle up to the Midway and touch the hull! I thought the Coast Guard would have sent someone to escort them out, but apparently that's an OK thing to do?

i got bullied by a navy boat out of oceanside once. they pulled up and said i had to be 500 yards from a supply ship that was anchored.

i told them "that's more than 500 yards right?" ... they said yes. but they maneuvered around me for the next half hour no more than about 50 feet away. i finally just left.

nice butt!

There is reason for the stern attitude form the Naval security (AKA CG),it's really for your own safety. You see, if you were to fall off of your PWC or kayak in the path or vicinity of the Vessel underway the vessel doesn't have the agility to stop and wait for you to get back on your PWC. A number of bad things could happen to you if you are in the water in the path of a Naval vessel underway but the worse is the churning propellers that like to suck you into the blades. So, they are really protecting the average "joe" from himself. BTW- NICE Halibut!!

Nice butt! Definitely worth being put on their terrorist black list.
I'm 0 for 4 on butts this year up in norcal, but just recharged my mojo by catching some lingcod, vermillion and cabezons this past Friday.

Congrats!

nice job finding that butt in what I found to be tough conditions, I was right there as Abe Lincoln passed as well, but only had a "sleigh ride" from a bat ray to report from the day

Nice fish. We had warning blasts from a huge ship in San Diego Bay on the way out bug fishing this last year. It's little hairy seeing the equivalent of a 12 to 15 story building, 3 football fields long, passing as close as this one did. We tried to cross over to the Coronado Island side, realized we weren't going to make it, and turned back. He blared his horn a half dozen times at us.
Don't remember if we got bugs that night, but at least you were rewarded. Congrats.

The more security they put in SD Bay the less secure I feel. I have had many rather stern but professional encounters with a CG, Naval Security, Harbor Police, and the grouchy old guys in thier fishing boats wth the CG reserve sticker showing. I am NEVER a hard case and always comply with thier directions. There have been a few times where I'm confident I was getting "messed with". A few years ago in December I left the little beach at the very end the civilian part of Rosecrans with a surf board strapped on to surf Ralphs on a huge north swell. A navel security boat picked me up right when I got to the mored NOAA ships. He never said a thing but would motor by me at hight speed and wake the shit out of me, then go idle in circles about a hundred yards ahead of me. He wait for me to pass him and then repeat the high speed waking drive by and wait manuver. He did this all the way to Ballest point. That cat and mouse got old. Great surf though. Mike

Okay, I guess I'll chime in as well. The flyby's from Navy Security are incredibly sucky. Two weeks ago, I'm adjacent to the Navy's Island but clearly near the middle of the bay. We're talking big arse San Diego Bay. A female operator hauls by way uncool close to me and gives me the look back about the time her wake hits me. I gave her the one finger salute...half expecting her to come back around locked and loaded with that big black gun...
