Did Someone Say Ling?

While fishing for Halibut at the edge
of the bull kelp, around 100', I kept getting
these vicious strikes on my fresh dead squid
on the bottom. Then I kept pulling up
Lings. I kept this baby, 38" long. Just
right for the coals. Taste? Out of this world.

I found Lings at the leading edge of the current,
mixed in with bait on the bottom; and, on top of structure.
My leader needed to be changed with each ling since
it came up frayed and mauled. Between the ling's teeth
and the near-by rocks, my 40lb flour didn't stand a chance.

I thought the Ling opener was moved to May??
Never mind I just read it was an error on F&G's part. NICE LING!

Lingcod Regs

Its pretty clear on the message..the online DFG site is always confusing and vague. I would just start fishing for them after the 15th. You decide.

I grabbed this from a post on bloody decks for the DFG:

Call the 831 649 2801 number
prompt 2 gets you the rockfish regs hotling
prompt 5 is for the southern area down to the Mexican border
prompt 2 is for Ling Cod specifically

The blue devil variety kind That's very cool Yani.

I'm glad to see they are still there. Few years back, lings (majority shorts) were rather big pain, they seemed that thick. I haven't caught one by the kelp in a while, really good to hear they are there.

Yani,

With all the great looking dishes you come up with, I am surprised that you aren't big as a house. Beautiful presentation. I wish you lived next door so I could stop by for a taste now and then.
