i dont get it? great white on a dock dead with a seabass in its mouth? where did this picture come from?

commercial boat gill net oceanside.
what dont you get the shark ate the seabass, both died in a gillnet, game over....

well now that its been established that they both came from a gillnet....it makes some sense. either way i dont see a great white getting caught in a gillnet and holding on to the seabass all the way to dieing and being brought to dock like that.

I caught a baby GWS (30-LBS) off of LJ in July..the ugliest mouth I've ever seen. Where was mom? Any guys in sophisticated stealth boat missing?

From what I recall it is expected that a certain number of while sharks will be caught in gill nets each year. Those that dont make it are taken to institutes for research on the species. I also seem to recall certain institutes having permits to kill X-amount of sharks a year for same reason.

White sharks are Federally protected however it is not international. Fines for killing them even vary state by state. Its kind of a weird one really.

I did not realize that there was still commercial gill netting in Ca. I had thaought that was done for long ago. But I saw some info on it on the DFG site.

Regulations are confusing. . .

You mean as a recreational fisherman, I can only use x # of hooks, rods, and have only x number of legal fish in possession. . .

But the commercial guys can kill'em all without repercussion?
