Newport 12/12/15

Fished with Orca Winfrey yesterday with the original plan for bottomfish. To make a long story short, I discovered that my FF battery passed away the night before. It was sad, I cried, crawled into a hole, and realized what a fool I was for not checking 2-3 days prior!

Ok, I didn't really do all that, but I was still pretty bummed. We decided to make the most of the day since it was our first trip in a couple of weeks. We started the day by trying a couple spots I marked on my phone but not much to show for it except for a couple of sand dabs and a short sandie. Shortly after, I was began to feel a little green. The micro swells coming in at all directions was just a little too much for me. So, the plan at that point was to hit the breakwall and docks. We ended up with some rock wrasse, "giant" calicos, couple spotties, and a few sand bass for our efforts.

Harbor bass caught on baby brush hogs, and bottomfish on squid.

Giant!

A better sized dock calico

The spottie ran about 15" or so.

Convince him for me. He doesn't want to buy one. lol

I've only tried for bottomfish once and my FF wasn't set to my liking. It's a learning process I suppose. I need to fish with you!

i actually sold mine recently it was an elite 5 dsi... it can't see a dam thing deeper then 100 feet. hopefully the Elite 7 chirp with the 50/200 ducer would do the trick.

Dont you guys have a lot of good rock fishing up north?

Nice. I can't say since I haven't kayaked all that much yet let alone use a fish finder.
