joezee1986 can you post a link to the shimano rod you're talking about? The highest rated weight I could find were 1 1/2 ounce heavys.

Look into swimbait rods for chucking big baits since you need something with a reel seat. I'm currently using a dobyns 807mag h to throw irons with my bait caster. It's rated 20-50#.
Specifically made for hucking 12" hard body baits
