Imo,
adding a fuse is just one more spot for corrosion and open circuits, in the kayak environment the internal circuit protection is ample, it also has an internal gps antenna

If I can remember correctly, I think there was a sticker/tag on the cable saying the fuse must be installed in order to be covered by manufacturer warranty.

I know of at least one guy that does not have a fuse. He said something about corrosion area. He has not had a ff problem yet.

That guy is pretty weird, I wouldn't follow his advice on anything.

That's funny I know a weird guy who does not and has not run a fuse on any of the 5 different meters, HB and Lowrance, he has had, and he has sent them in for repair "under warranty" with no trouble...and not due to fuse or no fuse...

I agree with ^^^^him^^^ I would follow his advice or continue to follow him when he says we're almost there.

OEX has waterproof inline fuses. They have the nice kind, that are truly waterproof and wont corrode, not the cheap inline fuses that typically come with the fishfinders.

Expect the mattress police!

Btw, the law doesn't apply once you wet your bed, so you're safe.
