Did you see the thread about the FnD I motorized? It was a couple hundred dollars and some time on the welder...Every time my Hobie friend brings up not having to paddle I cruise past him with my arms and legs crossed and a huge grin on my face.

Sure did, I was tempted to put something like that together for my wife but really don't want to have to register as a motor vehicle and we like the exercise of being man powered. I'll save the motorized method for when I am too old care about exercise.

You can still paddle, the motor only moves the yak at 2.5-3.0 MPH...if you want to go faster you'll need to paddle, I do. Besides, you want some exercise? Try loading and unloading with the motor/mount/and 70lb battery...I don't think half the people here could pull that off. haha

I still haven't registered mine, and I've run into both Fish and Game and harbor police...nobody gave a shat. The BEST part of having a motor is reverse! Watching my Hobie buddy struggle to go backwards is too much. We fish the bay like crazy so there's a lot of maneuvering around pylons, etc...reverse is worth it's weight in gold.

No arguments with that but just not what I want to do at this time, maybe if I don't sell them both I'll work on something with one. I've had a few ideas of my own with motor inside and use of a jet style propulsion system with low power to keep it maneuverable. I like thinking up ideas but putting them into practical use takes time away from the fun stuff like hunting and fishing. For now I need the cash more than the yak, I definitely like you set up though. Having spent more time on the big bay than open ocean in mine I can definitely see the benefit of having reverse.
