Hobie Bait tank

Hi I am new to the kayak thing having had my fill of big boats going long distances. I recently have gotten a revolution and consider it an excellent boat. The bait tank seems to have a pickup problem. Has anyone else had to lengthen the pickup side to get the pump to fill? I currently can only get the tank to function if i set it directly in the water.

Also Anyone who has interest in pairing up from seaside to swamis and working the kelp I would be interested in going with them Currently I go alone but it might be more fun woth someone else along.
