Alien egg sacks ?
![]() These 4 tubes with a sort of egg like sphere in each one were floating about as I was Rockfishing yesterday...can anyone identify them ? They were about a foot long and almost seemed to be kind of swimming along...

Second that opinion. Google Salp images, I couldn't get it to paste into this reply.
Usually they are more than two, they can form long chains and vary in size from grapes to the size of you palm. |

I've been seeing salps, moon jellyfish and purple-striped jellyfish recently at La Jolla.
Hopefully a sign of a flourishing ecosystem! |

A salp (plural salps) or salpa (plural salpae or salpas[1]) is a barrel-shaped, planktic tunicate. It moves by contracting, thereby pumping water through its gelatinous body, one of the most efficient examples of jet propulsion in the animal kingdom.[2] The salp strains the pumped water through its internal feeding filters, feeding on phytoplankton.

Scientists speculate that global warming may favor salps over krill.
I wonder if the salps killed the penguins at La Jolla? I haven’t seen one there, for at least 15 years |
