It may help to shorten the straps to keep from flapping in the wind.

Maybe turn the kayak opposite how you have it now, if at all possible.

Some pool noodle on the cross members?

Just some of my ideas.

A picture hear may help with more suggestions.

The trick is to allow some twists in the straps then it won't catch the wind.........like a reed instrument

Exactly - I put at least two to three twists on each side of the tie down so it does not buzz...
