Never once sucked up a plastic bag. Scum? Could you use it in a sentence please? And eel grass (the only thing on the list that gives me problems) well, that usually stops in my pump. Which is one reason I didn't go your cheap route. When pump clogs, unplug battery and blow some air through the hose.

I really do appreciate your concerns though..

Don't give tjones credit . Someone else posted up pics of this brilliant idea already . The hose I use is a plastic flex hose . Threaded on both ends . A cap can be placed on end after priming to retain water . The advantage of using flex hose is that you can inhale to prime , or blow to clear debris . On my new tank , the fist thing I did was bypass the switch . Highly recommended. Great thread . Horrible scenario is having spent 2 - 3 hours making bait , only to have scratched out three greenies. Now you find yourself in a wide open bite . Reach for a Mac and everyone is floating due to a failed switch . . Been there , done that .

I guess you got all the bases covered. Might be hard to blow air through a screen like that if it's all clogged, unless you remove it by cutting the zipties. You could try removing the hose and sucking the stuff out. Let us know if that works.

Everyone else should just save the $20 for the bait barge.

The clogging will , once again, be on the outside of the screen. Not much makes it past my intake, and for the 4th time, it gets stuck in the pump. I appreciate it though you inexpensive-crow.

How is this going to stop your tank from draining if the hose is laying on the bottom like that. If your pump fails and the tank drains, most likely the only way you will notice is when your bait starts flopping around. By then its already too late.

One more time, where does all the debris get stuck?

I just want to know all the details before I do this awesome mod.
