Catch and release/keep as many surf perch as you can...

You may even catch spot & yellow fin croaker, corbina, ?

It's an almost guaranteed method to catch. Besides, once the kids are done, they can dig in the sand. Or you fish and hook up and have the kids reel them in.
Agee. Kids have short attention spans. I've had mixed results with lake fishing. After 30min no bites, my son was bugging the other anglers and just bored. Surf fishing, there's plenty for them to do. Give them a bucket and have them dig up sandcrabs. When you get a perch on, have them reel it in. In that area, I've had fun at Cassidy. You might need to go up a bit on your egg sinker, like 1/2 or 3/4. Also, warn kids about surf and not turning back to the surf. Have fun!
