Thanks alot for your help too i wouldnt know where to start of i hadnt asked here. It was about 9 pounds enough to feed the whole family and then some.

WTG!! Lots of times it is just about getting on the water, not having every gadget, gizmo and technique down to a science. But I would invest a few bucks in a gaff or net if I were you. Can't tell you how many times I have landed (and lost) a Halibut that was just hooked by a small piece of skin. Oh yeah, make sure the gaff is sharp too

Ya its actually relaxing not having any electronics to worry about and just fish alone. im gonna buy a gaff soon once im done with my bait tanks plumbing. And ill make sure the gaff is extra sharp.

Great report and nice fish! I know there is a 36+" one waiting for you but you will definitely need a GAFF! If you think a 30" goes ballistic you ain't seen nothing yet!

Thanks alot man i hope i can catch a bigger one in the future. i wouldnt risk one on my lap anymore i really need to buy a gaff.

youll get your first hali before you know it. read over some threads especially my thread titled "halibut rig" it will help you out. i would stay in florida though especially after seeing your thread. hope you have a safe trip here.
