out at night with no lights is just stupid... ill turn mine off out in LJ on a clear night when drifting but as soon as i hear a motor or see lights comming i turn them back on along with my headlamp.

you can get some really bright LED lights for only $40. I run two of these on the rear and throw a glow stick or two up front.
