I use a Calcutta 250 for halibut and I have straight #50 braid. Its not like its not like you get that much more line capacity with the 30#. I like the added comfort the 50# gives me if I hook something big and the 50# cuts in on itself less then the30#.

I have a similar setup, Calcutta 250 on a Shakespere Ugly Stick Lite, it is my favorite setup and I use it for bass and halibut. I use 30lb Power Pro with 25lb Flouro leader. I have managed to catch a 30lb Halibut and several BSB in the 30-40lb range with it, and of course. lots of bass.

if used around kelp 50lb spectre is minimum no kelp 30lb is fine
