5/22 da horror (not a yak report)

Celebrated my daughter's birthday today with friends and family.

One of the attendees was my buddy (a neighbor from 3 houses down) from the making a wish come true report. He's been doing some fishing with his dad but without much luck.

The topic of fishing came up today and as luck would have it, I actually had wrapped a new stick for him as a late birthday additional gift.

We cleared the trip with the moms and were out the door pronto.

We got to Dog Beach at 3:30 with 3 of the kids in tow. My goal was to get Jeffrey a fish to properly "break" in his new rod.

Without sandcrabs available (or usable sized ones anyway) we opted for crack. It didn't disappoint.

My buddy got one on the first cast and then the kid's got in on the action.

My daughter, the birthday girl, breaking in her new custom stick.

Followed by Alyssa.

Then Jeffrey baptized his new stick, a 7.5 graphite stick, rated for up to 12 lbs. Think of a more sensitive Clarus with better components.

I of course did my damage.

The kids ended up spending most of the 2.5 hour session wading in the water after landing a few fish. When the buzzer went off, it was time to get these sandy, messy, wet kids home and showered.

Here's where the horror comes in.

My buddy was loading up his kids and had stuff everywhere. A gust of wind came up and swung the car door pretty hard. Guess what was in the door jam....

wait for it.

almost there...

this is NOT what I meant by breaking in a new stick.

Yeah, the brand new custom stick was broken on her maiden voyage. And unfortunately, this break is irrepairable.

At least she caught some fish.

Now Dad wants to learn how to wrap a rod so he can make his son a new one. Looks like I have a new pupil for the interim.
