Birthday Barndoor

Launched at 5:30am on Monday for a little birthday fun. Had a disaster trying to make bait, reel crapped out and sabiki got al tangled up. Got three Spanich out of it. After having very little success at La Jolla for ther last 2 years of my fishing career, I just said skrew it and kept a positive attitude.

Set up on Spanish on a low rig with a squirt on the bottom, just of the kelp at the NW corner of the condo. I was trying for a WSB.

So my low one with the Spanish starts to brrp, brrp. Start to wind it in and starts pulling line, get some head shakes, so I thought it was a Yellow. Get it to color and it is the biggest Halibut I have ever caught. Came up real easy, gaffed him just below the gills, still no fight. Put him in the hatch and he goes mental, thought he was going to blow thew hatch off.

Anyway stoked to have some success and so was my wife. 41" and just over 30lbs.

NIce B-day flattie. Congrats.

Flatties almost aways go mental when you take the gaff out of them. You want to make sure they are secured 1st. Nice job.
