San Quintin Fish Report

Yesterday, launched 6am, light fog. Fished 2.5 hours before winds came in. 15+ by 10am. Score, broke off on 20 lb test. Landed 2 halibut 24-26", plus about a dozen spotties. F/F and GPS died. Spent yeaterday afternoon looking through truck for part. This morning wind still blowing at 5-10, so worked on getting electronics working again. The wind is now back to 15+ and white caps on the bay. Looks like 10+ mph winds next few days. 6-9 am better at 0-6 mph. Will update again in a couple days.

Very cool Bob! Nice to hear that you caught some halibut! Did you catch with bait or was it using artificials?

Both, one on a z-man and one on a lizzard. Wind is still doing 15. Still nothing better than a Baja sunset, cheers. Clams for dinner and a Baileys cream for desert.

Livin the dream!

Sounds really rough Bob! Hope you have your electronics figured out and that the wind dies down for you. Good luck and keep us posted!

4:30 am, awoke to cool weather and no wind. Hit the water at 5am. Fog, with visablilty at 1/4 to 1/2 mile, wind at 2-3 mph. 6am, four bass 12-17", one small butt 16" wind from Nw at 5-6 mph. 7 am, ten more bass, one bat ray and two small butts 19 and 23", winds still 5-6 mph. 8 am, back at Don Eddies. Caught 5 more bass on the way back. Seeing I fished north in the shallow part of the bay it was an easy tide-wind ride back. Total count for the morning was 3 Halibut best being 23", 19 bay bass, best was 18", one bat ray, 15 pounds and 4 lizzard fish. A cormarant ate a fork/spoon, as did the butts and most of the bass. Yes there are many cormarants in the bay, and when you see them catching bait you know that there are fish around, poor mans fish finder.
It is 8:40 now and the visability is 1/2 to 3/4 miles in fog, winds are now at a steady 12-15 mph, but no white caps yet. It was cold on the water this morning with fog and no sun, MAYBE TOMORROW will be better.............
11 am 15-20 and white capping, noon the same.

Yak attack, Hobie Outback. I can point my nose into the wind and peddle/fish in 10-15 mph winds, but it is very uncomfortable after an hour. At the first sign of whitecaps I head home. Right now it is almost noon and blowing 20. One small area to hide from wind and still fish. In the lee of a breakwater, maybe 200 yds long and 50 yards wide, water depth maybe 10 feet.
