SMMT Calico Bass Div. Rules

9th Annual Steve Moyer Memorial Kayak Fishing Calico Bass Division

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Official tournament VHF Ch. 65/16

........These rules are for all 2011 Steve Moyer Memorial Kayak Fishing Calico Bass Division.
1. Each contestant MUST READ, UNDERSTAND, AGREE TO, AND SIGN a 2011 SMMT entry/waiver form
2. Each entrant in the tournament must designate whether they are fishing the bass or big fish division the morning of the event before launching.
3. You can only enter one division.
4. All fish must be caught live in a conventional and sporting manner.
5. No Trolling allowed
6. Only artificial lures are permitted, NO LIVE or Natural BAIT
7. Only one “rod and reel” may be used at a time.
8. Fish must be kept alive; one pound will be deducted from the total bag weight for each dead fish presented for weigh-in. The Tournament Director or a designee will make all judgments of fish mortality.
9. Fish must be weighed live on the water by one of the designated weigh boats.
10. Weigh in dead line for the bass division is 12:00 noon.
11. It is the angler’s responsibility to get their fish to a weigh boat before the deadline.

SCORING/PAYOUT -

1. ....Scoring will be determined by the total weight of each angler’s catch.
2. The anglers three largest Calico Bass will be combined for their total bag weight.
3. Calico Bass only allowed, no other fish will be weighed.
4. Each angler may only weigh five fish during the tournament. An angler weighing more than (5) fish will be disqualified.
5. The Winner will be based on the angler with the heaviest combined weight of three Calico Bass
6. The official minimum length for bass shall be thirteen (13) inches. Bass will be measured lying down, mouth closed / tail fanned, on a FLAT board.
7. Bass presented for weigh-in, which fail to measure the prescribed minimum length limit, shall be removed from the catch and a penalty of one (1) pound will be deducted from the remaining weight.
8. In the event of a tie the winner will be determined by the angler in the tie that has the single heaviest Calico Bass.
9. The Calico Bass Division will be “The Winner Takes All” format. The winner will take home $250 Cash, $150 Gift Certificate to the Ballast Point Brew Mart, Custom 8ft Bass Rod, $50 value pack of Reebs Lures.[/size]

Sounds like a great tournament but I gotta throw this out there. WSB, YT, and halibut have to be dead at weighed in but calico bass have to be alive. Why is this? Is this just because calicos can be kept alive? I have never understood the "sacred cow" status of calico bass. Please share. MIke
