Fishing La Jolla

Relatively new to kayak fishing and was wondering when the best time would be to give La Jolla a shot? I have fished San Diego Bay from kayak on several occasions and fish many different areas in the surf and bay ona regular basis wtih success for mainly SBB. Not hoping to catch any YT or WSB, but more interested in sheepshead, sand bass, calicos... etc.. When is the best time of year to try for these species? and what bait is best? I usually exclusively use plastics, but is live bait best? Are there usually alot of kayak fisherman out there, really hoping to learn from some veterans... sorry for all the questions, just hoping to get a little knowledge so I'm prepared for my first trip to LJ, hoping to go sometime in the next month.

Thanks so much in advance for any advice, it is much appreciated.
