5 lumps going out

or was that five roll overs in the surf . i haven't got destroyed going out in a long time . this time seemed like it just wouldn't end . 3 - 4 ' at county line is no joke . after going back to the truck to straighten out my mirage drive , and lighten up my kayak by dumping my battery and bait tank i returned to the beach . the last two other kayakers made it out , mainly due to the fact that the surf actually came down . i took one more attempt at it and succeeded . of course fish were caught while i was dicking around . my kamikaze approach at launching was not working today . i really need to work on reading the surf and strengthening my paddling skills . one kayaker was heading in so he could get to work and kindly handed my his bait . thank you again . he had one strapped to the back. since making bait ( which was plentiful ) was on less thing i had to worry about i got to what i thought was the zone and within ten minutes i was on . standard white sea bass fight , a run here , a run there, and straight to the gaff . i fished a little more and had to more strikes . the first loaded up and i did not give it enough time and pulled the bait from him. the second short strike the fish came through and just slurped my bait off missing the hook . the winds started to kick up and by now and all but one other kayaker was left on water . we both headed in . it really starting to howl with white caps showing . my landing of late have been a lot better , maybe because i am remaining calmer . my launchings today were epic fails . i even lost a couple guide inserts on the rods which i had stowed on the side of the yak . luckily i bought them from sports chalet with the extra warranty . no questions asked . over all i will gladly take my lumps especially considering it was not wide open by any means . not a bad start to the season .

i have just heard horror stories about that place, one guy lost $800.00 worth of gear because he thought he could do it.
