I think there was something saying the guys rod broke, maybe the reel went in and he was trying to get it.

I think it was staged, it looks like they were luring the grouper towards the boat with some bait. And the guy was way over acting, that fish was way too small to eat him.

Being from Florida I have seen 1500lb versions of the Goliath (used to be called Jewfish) that could eat him though...
