NOT EVEN A STORM CAN STOP these 3 kayakers

I have read countless stories on how it is best to hoop before, during, or after a storm.

I am HERE TO TELL YOU THAT IT IS BULL—CACA.

BULL CACA

My report begins:

The date was November 4,2011.

The members were.

George (jorluivil), Tony (ful-rac), Frank (wiredantz/Darknachos)

All of us had one thing in mind. !!!!

LIMITS!!!

George and I were the first ones on the scene. It looked like the storm had just passed.

We make our way out of the harbor and get hit with some HUGE SWELLS J. I tell George “THIS IS OUR TIME TO SHINE BABY.” George decides to stay at the close to to the bay. I decide to go further down the wall…

How Frank is feeling at this point of time.

Kayak danger level with 10 being imminent danger. Level 7

How Frank is feeling at this point in time.

Frank has stinkymatts point of view. LIMITS BABY LIMITS.

Current Conditions (HARDCORE KAYAKERS ONLY)

I start paddling up North against Wind, Swells, Rain, Thunder, Whitecaps, Whales, Seals, Dolphins, and acts of God.

At this point I am still paddling. I look behind me and say to myself.

DUDE!!! I have only moved 100ft.

I do not let down, I keep paddling.

My $260.00 Kokatat Tempest Tectour jacket is doing its job…(keeping me dry). (the latex on the wrist was too tight, Ill explain this on my next fishing reports called. THE ULTIMATE HALIBUT TRIP.

So I keep paddling, my kayak goes up about 3-4 ft because of the swells height, and down I go. My bow is piercing through the swells. ( I was a bit worried about my X-Factor kayak taking in a lot of water, from the huge hatch but I kept my eyes on it). Suddenly a huge Raincloud strikes both George and I, the wind picks up and rain hits our face at mad speed. I put on my tectour hood and keep paddling. My bow breaks through the swells, and the swells cover the front part of my kayak.

I keep paddling. George calls me on the radio to see how I am. I tell him I can’t hear him (the rain and swells crashing on the rocks was too much. I put my radio close to my ear (George tells me he is going back inside the bay, its too much for him) .

Now, here lies the tricky part. Lay down the hoop nets and keep control of the kayak. I managed to lay down all my hoop nets.

George calls me and tells me he needs help tying his wheels down on his kayak. So we meet half way down the wall, and I help him.

George basically tells me, I put my arms over my head to try to cover myself from the hellish rain of doom. (in my words)

As soon as the rain stops, here comes Tony!

We tell Tony, you just missed the rain. Tony said Hi and he paddles to put down his hoop nets.

Tony then tells me “Frank this doesn’t feel right” The swells are high and wind is a killer.

I tell Tony… History shows LOBSTERS LOVE BAD WEATHER!!!

Tony tells me, “If they are not crawling after his first pull, I am leaving.”

I would describe Friday’s event like a hellish rollercoaster.

The wind and swell calm, down. Tony is happy, he said now it is doable.

Looks like we caught the tail end of the storm.

Well I am sad to say … Our efforts were in vain….

Tony 0, George 2, Frank 1 and this was only because we paddled to another location….

Kokatat Jacket left me completely dry, even the kokatat pants held up. It seems the Velcro waist of the jacket and pants go hand in hand.

Glad to see somebody else with the balls to eat spider crabs. They are actually very good.Funny thing is when they get bigger the legs get huge and the body grows much slower.Looks like that lobster has a thing for spider crabs.

This guy was over 10# and 34" across. He came up straddling the eclipse net, eating bait from the outside.

Hit them with a power washer or scrub them to remove algae before steaming

Yeah I was telling george that they are not only good they are actually excellent!!! I'm not sure if he believed me but.....that's ok more crab for the rest of us!!! If you don't like cracking and eating dungeness crab you definitely won't like the spiders. You almost need to use dynamite to crack'em but it's worth it!!!!! NO BS!!!!

I was hoping to catch one Saturday night but ended up with bycatch: crabs and lobster. Gave my crabs to Frank and kept the lobster.

Power to you, Friday was mad! My bro & I headed out on Saturday 6am, thinking it's only 4-6ft by the pier, not at the launch...Well, we were wrong, surf was still big! I did not see a single kayaker, nor a boater on that day. Conditions got much better in the afternoon though. I'll post a launch video later on so all can enjoy my brown-pants moment.

Cheers,
