Cloudy SD Bay

Got out this morning on SD Bay at 7 am. It was cloudy and stayed that way until I left at 1130. The marine layer got thicker around 915ish. Launched from Shelter island boat ramp. The water was warm. Lots of tuna fisherman getting their boats out but plenty of room for me to launch my kayak. Rode the tide out and trolled on the way out to the shelter Island pier area didn?t get any bites. Enjoyed watching a small pod of dolphins swimming out of the bay. casted several times and didn?t catch my first Sandy until about 30 minutes of fishing in front of the shelter Island pier here I caught three sands, one topping out at 17 inches. Also got two nasty lizard fish. One was actually about 12 inches long. After fishing here for a while I made my way across to the north Island side past the ammo pier and drifted for a while, casting and working the bottom. Caught one Sandy here on the north Island side. Lots of healthy sea grass. Other than the one Sandy didn?t get any other bites nor did I see any bait fish. Made my way back across to the shelter island side and trolled no bites. Got off the water at about 1115. The plastics that work the best were my dark green grub and my smoke colored grub. Hope these colors work for you guys.

Next time, use the live Lizard fish as bait by dragging it at the bottom...even if they seem to big...I just learned (SD Bay video) that big sand bass and halibut love those. Crazy...but makes sense as they are part of the big bay fish food chain.
