I dont think it would be good to land with the skeg down. If you do get sideways and that skeg grabs the sand. Who knows what could happen. I think the skeg is for pedaling in open water. Keeping the boat tracking straight instead of going in every direction. The biggest benefit is the Lowrance ready system. Having the ducer in the water is a big advantage over a through hull.
