Most guys drive the boat in (using peddles). I preferred paddling in. That being said, I would pull the drive and install the plug. I also had tailor shorten the leash. This will prevent the leash from wrapping around neck. Also I would tie knot where buckle is to prevent to drive from separating. You can also double feed the leash through the mirage drive and run it back through the loop you created. Eliminating buckle all together will prevent any possible way of loosing drive, other than the eyelit ripping out of boat .
