Thanks for the feedback. There are two things I can definitely do which is keep it's head in the water as well as have the gaff at the ready.

I'll also try loosening up the drag once I get them up to the top next time. The only part that I worry about in loosening up the drag when they are at the surface is that it gives them a chance to make another run which heightens the risk of another cut line.

I'm also going to look into seeing if there is a better line I can use for on the terminal portion to both hooks. There might be something out there that is more cut resistant.
