I'd echo this sentiment. I just got an older OK prowler 13 with a cheap aluminum paddle included for 250 bucks total. They're a great balance of lean, light, and stable. I'd research the kind of kayak you want for the kind of fishing you want to do and set some craigslist alerts. you'd be surprised at the deals you can find there and what you can negotiate.
