Had a DSI unit for a while and it was good for identifying bottom structure like small rock piles , individual kelp stringers or pipes but not so good at picking up bait or fish in general. Some will tell you they can read up to 200 ft but I felt it lost most of it's effectiveness deeper than 100 ft and i lost the bottom at 175 ft.
