He BLACKED OUT according to the news story. Then he apparently flipped over and fell off of his kayak. That adds a whole new element to this thread. Apparently he has some kind of medical condition that caused him to black out. Under those circumstances he was very wise to have every possible safety device. I carry almost everything except that beacon, and I feel pretty safe. I have gps with my phone and fishfinder, a VHF radio, whistle, compass, pump, and always wear a PFD. If I had a medical condition that might cause blackouts, I would definitely go with a dry suit and beacon as well. I am glad they ran the follow-up story.
