I'll tell you one thing I hate about most products for this purpose is the price.
I grabbed rail blaza mounts for my kayak starting out, and am always a bit flummoxed by how pricy they are.
Looking at kayaks and kayak accessories in general, there's a part of me that wishes I'd figured out a brilliant idea for rotomolding plastic into something I could charge an arm and a leg for like a Yeti Cooler
Rail Blaza is decent, but I don't like the extension pole connectors. they feel like they could very easily get knocked out of lock position, and I actually zip tied mine just to be extra safe. The deck mounts can also get a bit sticky, though way less sticky than a scotty mount can sometimes be.
In retrospect, I should have hit Youtube becuase there are some really solid ideas on how to mount ranging from pretty basic to really fancy, but all far and above cheaper than most brands.
The best premise I've seen is a super cheap telescoping monopod that's been hacked to mount to RAM gear.

I think the biggest thing I took away early from watching a Robert Field video on how he rigs his kayak
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...el=RobertField is the premise of mounting to the deck with two pivot points, one at the deck and one at the camera, so you can swing the boom around like he illustrates and easily turn it on and off when he's ready to record.
I see a lot of guys who put a high mount where it's tough to reach behind them, and I know that would just amount to me never turning it on.
As alternative mounts go, I just bought one of these for my fishing vest.

I like having that vantage without having it on my head, and I've found that little clip very versatile if not a *bit* flimsy and mostly plastic.
I also know robert field swears by
