I have owned 4 registered boats over the years, but with increased population a good idea. I have seen people do alot of stupid things on the water.

Actually the Boaters Card is only $10 through Boat US. I got mine 2 years ago, well before the time I'm actually required to have one. It was a very intensive education with 7 sections covering just about everything including safety, rules, even boat hull design. I took my time completing a course per day. Each course is 40 -70 pages and you have to spend about 25 seconds per page before you can go to the next. You have to pass an exam after each section. In the end you have about an 80 question final exam. I would guess that it would take a minimum of 8 hour to complete the entire course. With all the stupid antics I see on the water I'm very happy that everyone will be required to get this card by 2025. After I received my permanent Boating card Tow Boat US gave me a $50 discount on my next on the water towing bill.
