I got sick once after eating one, it may have been too close to a red tide, so exercise caution in the months following, especially if it came from a shallow bay.
That said, I've eaten plenty of rays before, and this was the only one that I got sick from, also it was on the larger side, which I would recommend avoiding, as the cartilage can be too tough for quick cooking methods and is probably better cooked separately as in shark fin soup.
