Ed, you a 100% dead on about shearwaters. I thought cormorants sucked until I had to handle a shearwater. Biting, pecking, flaping like crazy, making some sort of demonic noise, nasty way sharp little claws. Pelis are just big, ugly, and anoying. With our state's climate of over sensativity coupled with the publics complete ignorance of actual (not disney) animal behavior please be very careful that any pelican fend off looks like a gentle push and not a smack or shove.
