I think you got it, that's the way I remember them. They would hit the sabiki, but often fall of the hook before getting on board. Ended up with plenty bait and most released, after a bait tank ride....

I find a 7' is the minimum for all around and 8' is good for a jig throwing rod. Anything shorter makes it harder to get the line around the bow without having to move yourself on the deck.
