I work at turners and fill line everyday. The most common thing in saltwater reels is using braid first and then what they call a "top shot" which is about 50-100 yards of mono on top of the braid....

If you like shimano I would stay with the Currado 200. If you wanna try other brands take a look at the Daiwa tatula. I have Abu reels and they seem to not fair well in salt water. As far as rods go...
