La Jolla 5-9-2024 on the SOLO SKIFF

I don't post much anymore because fishing hasn't been great for the last few years. Many get bored when there's no fish porn in a report, so it leads to NO REPORTS. Having been at "the right place at the right time" today, I though I might share it. Congratulations Mark,

Good to see your efforts pay off! :yt:! It certainly looked like there were some good marks on the meter. Nice that one decided to bite! Did you ever find the missing hook from the DTX? :jig: Maybe a second fish hit the lure and tore it off?

What about slow trolling live baits on the Solo? Any luck doing that? or is it too much of a PITA to kick the engine in and out of gear to keep from going too fast ?

Beautiful!

Felt like I was right there!

Congratulation Fish11!

I have been, Drifting a live Mac, slow trolling (1.5-3 mph) a live Mac, Yoyoing lures, trolling lures for most trips. All should get reactions but it's been weird for some time to know you are in the area, see great marks and reports, but no reward many trips. Then boom, "you were in the right place at the right time", covered many of the same areas on every trip. The other hook was in his lip, the larger VMC 4X hook I had put on the DTX 100 came off at the moment I gaffed the Yellowtail. I now have replaced the original circle rings with slightly larger and stronger ones, they had stretched with all the hard pulling.

It's a 2020 Tohatsu 6HP, 15" shaft, 4 stroke. Same engine is also sold as a Mercury 6HP, for a little more $.

Well earned fish Mark! Bumpy sea surface there, but you kept at it, stoked for you, keep it up!

PapaDave 05-10-2024 05:31 PM

Nice catch! It's good to see some life from La Jolla.

Hey Sully, yes early on the water surface was getting rougher and rougher. It calmed down a little later and when I was leaving earlier it was mostly calm. Left earlier than planned since I had a nice LJ Yellowtail to put under more ice. Taste sooooooo gooooooooddd.

Nice talking with you at the launch. We were the only ones out on the water that morning. Thanks again for the battery jump start.

It was nice metting you Gary. Like I mentioned at the launch, I only wish I had found out about and started Kayak Ocean fishing as early as you did. Like you mentioned, almost every trip was a nice LJ Yellowtail and many trips with 3 or 4 on board. GOOD OLD DAYS! Tight Lines

Your perseverance paid off Mark!

Way to get the party started! :yt:

FISH11 05-13-2024 05:37 PM

Yes there are days that are lower then others, but when I started out on Kayaks in 2013 I said to myself to make it about enjoying the beautiful scenery of La Jolla and the fishing is just the icing on the cake. It' my favorite place to recharge and improve my attitude, melt away the worlds BS! Tight Lines!

:luxhello: Nice YT! :yt: I was nervous the whole time, thinking a fat O slug lion was going to steal it away. Good work and well deserved.

Thanks, Pinhead. I'm always looking for a furbag or the taxman, when fighting the fish and especially while bleeding and cleaning the large Yellowtail. Tight Lines!

Awesome fish Mark! You definitely earned that one. Time on the water and then some. Well done :yt:

Nice work Mark. I was just telling my buddy we should get back out there as I haven't been in a while. Only went like twice last year and I used to be out there every other week before that.

Hi Shane, it's been a while. Many regulars don't get out as often, anymore. I got the Solo Skiff so I can cover more water and faster and then the Yellowtail became harder to find. When the weather cooperates it's so beautiful there in LJ. Go out when you can. Tight Lines!
