favorite spottie rod / set up?

if you had just one...

Cardiff 200 and my new favorite rod, the Okuma Shadow Stalker (7'6" Medium). I have a Curado, but like the Cardiff better as they hold up to the salt longer. It really depends on your budget though. This combo will only set you back about $220.

If i just had one setup..... curado 200i with a st croix mojo bass inshore rod with 30# braid. Fast action, senstitive, strong backbone, smooth drag, casts a mile.

Lexa 300 on a Phenix 806L is my favorite, followed by Curado 300EJ on a Teramar TMCX711MBRA. Great castability from the longer rods and enpugh pulling power for spotties and anything else that comes along.

cardiff 200 and an ugly stick

pray4BIGfish 02-28-2015 05:51 PM

Shimano Antares and an acid wrapped lamiglass G1000 blank.. spooled with 15-20lb spectra and a short fluoro top shot thats my go too

I have had the same spottie rod/reel combo forever and it has never failed me!

Ugly stik 6'6 MH & Abu garcia 5600

The ugly stik is cheap but definitely durable with lots of backbone, and will hold up against the by catch (aka halibut). I love it. You don't need anything crazy for em!

My favorite outfit currently is a Citica 200 on a fast action 7' Falcon rod rated 10-20. I fish 30lb braid with a short leader of 10-15lb fluoro. You can spend a lot of cash but basically any rod and real combo that can fish 10lb line and hold up t salt water will catch spotties. Mike

How is your Abu Garcia Pro max holding up?

I was enjoying my Daiwa Tatula reel until it froze up and sent it back to Daiwa along with my Daiwa Lexa.

I may go back to Shimano again.

I currently use a Tatula type R with a MH 7'6" Tatula Rod

My brother uses Tatula with M 7" Tatula Rod

My other brother uses a jdm Ryoga 7~8' Zillion Rod/jdm Daiwa t3 air Reel with a Phoenix Rod

Other brother uses Okuma Helios with a Cabela Rod.

I am planning to get a Chronarch ci4+ with a jackall Poison rod

It's been fine. No signs that I fish it in the salt. I still like my Cardiffs better though. As far as Diawas go, the only ones I liked were my SL 20 and 30. Nothing but bad luck with the baitcasters.

Thats a tough question. One rod will not allow you to maximize throwing a crankbait, swim bait, a blade, and a creature bait.

However, if I could only take one set up fishing I'd take a Okuma Kumodo 200 paired with a 7'2 or 7'6 Med/Heavy fast or Xfast rated 10-20lb rod.

2000 size Penn Captiva on a Berkeley Tactix M spinning setup.

That's my favorite but a also drop shot with a few different casting outfits.

:reel: 7'9" Medium action Salt Striker Casting Combo, with low-profile baitcaster and 8lb clear trilene big game line.
