Magic seaweed blows goats

Magic seaweed said La Jolla was going to have 1-2 foot waves. The fact that I had to dodge surfers on the way out and back in says that's just not true...

jorluivil 06-03-2014 04:00 PM

Maybe you launch just north of the 1-2 footers?

momo fish 06-03-2014 04:09 PM

You know.... I'm having some real issues with the different forecast out there.

I went out 3 days in a row and all 3 days the wind and swell forecast was way off on Surfline and seeweed. What was predicted as 8 to 12 was actually 18 to 25. I confirmed with with a lifeguard tower that had a wind gage. One of those days I was holding on to kelp to avoid being blown and big swells. I'm just going to double whatever forecast they make going forward.

To rely on forecast. How little we have accomplished, we can't even get that right!

jorluivil 06-03-2014 04:31 PM

I think you guys are missing the point, they are called 'forecast' and or 'predictions' for a reason.

Dannowar 06-03-2014 04:42 PM

Cdip buoys said 3.5 feet at 10 seconds from the north. You Must have missed that one:eek:

I was out diving today. Took a heavy one on the launch.

the n.pac size at 3 feet and anything ten seconds and under means ill really have to time it.

surfline forecast said the same thing...1-2 which was definetely the size if you are keen on "surf size"

none of those sites are accurate but give you a general ballpark, all it takes is one look at the cdip models.

All the forecast sites use the same computer models and they all underestimated wind swell this week. Happens a lot this time of year. If you really dont like surf launches you could check the CDIP model before you leave home. You may be able to save yourself a trip.

momo fish 06-03-2014 06:06 PM

I get that but if the weather predicts it's going to be 70 degrees and it's off by 20 for a few days you stop listening to it. When I head out I look at the forecast to get an idea the conditions I will be facing as that will determine if I am going 4 miles out or 1 mile.

There has to be more accurate predictions out there if not what's the point. If not I would just stick my finger in the air and make my own forecast :)

Never saw this before and will use it as well. Launched from county line as it was lowest surf I had seen in a while. Easy in and out for once. Thanks!
