Lexa 400, anyone used it yet?

Has anyone used it yet? Any review would be appreciated. I'm looking into lexa 400 PWR-P, 5.4:1 gear ratio reel for jigging
Thank you!

what rod are you thinking of putting the 400 and the 300 on?

I have a tranxHG and a couple Lexa 300HS's.... I think Shimano definitely has a better build quality.... I have had to do a lot of service on the Daiwas, and I dont even use it as much as the tranx... hope that helps some, good luck :)

Yea but the tranx is a beast and a half, in its own category

The tranx is superior to the Lexa, but you pay a premium. IMHO, both reels are WAY to big for a baitcaster. The 300 is perfect for our local waters

Gerry 04-16-2014 01:08 AM

The lexa 400 is WAY to big to be a levelwind reel.

Toss a saltist 20 and your golden!!!!

I have a lexa 400 hsp for throwing surface irons and I love it. It's on a phenix rod. Casts like a dream. Tons of drag. Great reel

Also, tiburon makes an aftermarket jig stick clamp for the tranx and now the lexa 400. It's close to $50

Bought mine a few months ago...amazing. It's easy to take apart and clean. Holds tons of line and casts like a dream.

Use with a 8' okuma Muskie heavy action 35-60# rod. I can put some serious distance on an iron.

I have the tranx HG with the phenix rod also and it's a beast but you dont really want to bring that on the kayak in fear of losing an expensive piece of gear (speaking from experience of kayak flipping). If the lexa 400 is just as good and less than half the price and a bit smaller; I'd settle for lexa with a good rod for casting iron.

Even the quantum iron pt is a cool baitcaster. I myself have the abu garcia revo toro nacl. Went to this after using the curado 300ej, never going back

Thanks guys! Lexa 400 HSP is on order!

CheapPelican 04-16-2014 05:26 PM

What was your toro not doing for you that you think the lexa will, other than size? Am considering one my self.

YakDout 04-16-2014 05:30 PM

I have toro nacl 50. And a lexa 300 as well as 400. I don't even remember the last time I fished with the Abu. I've had too many problems with it. I had to take it apart and fix something almost everytime I used it. I think the Lexas are sealed better. I would feel comfortable pulling on a 35 lb yellow with my lexa 400. I cannot say the same for the Abu

CheapPelican,
I'm a gear whore haha
Seriously tho I have not had enough time with abu so I can't judge but I like the size of the lexa better than the abu and lexa seems to me it looks better ;)

I like the looks too. Futureistic. Will look good with my phenix abyss.

Tackle whore huh? Would you have a 300ej to compare it to?

Please follow up with a review when you get it.

I think im going to get one but I'm still debating on what size. That abyss pairs nicely with my 300ej. I'm wondering whether to up size the reel.

I have 300ej as well but that's more comparable to lexa 300 in size. I find myself using lexa 300 more than 300ej. Not because lexa is better but I just use lexa more than 300ej.
Shimano feels more refined and daiwa feels more rough (I don't mean rough as bad). Shimano = feminine, Daiwa = masculine :D
I will let you know my first impression when I get lexa 400.
But I am no mean by gear expert just a gear whore haha

Maybe you guys got some defective one because mine has pulled in yellows and yft's up to 40# in baja. But thats the beauty of there being so many reels and brands out there. Everyone has an opinion and every reel has a place. Let me know how that lexa treats you
