Elite 5 gold or elite 5 gold dsi

West Marines online store has both the lowrance elite 5 gold and the elite 5 gold dsi on sale for 349.99. I'm getting ready to order and not sure if I'm reading this right. I assumed the dsi would cost more?

I don't know how I'll be mounting the transducer just yet but i know I'll need the ducer In the water if I'm using the dsi. Do any of you have any cool innovative ways of mounting your transducers in the water without something hanging over the side of your kayak creating drag.

lowrance scupper mount should work.

I'm in the market for a new FF thanks for the heads up

Dsi Scupper mount works just fine. I have e5 gold dsi. I stay in less than 100 feet of water at all times though. If you go deep, I've heard dsi become ineffective.

Thats why I got the hds so I have both so when I go oit for rockfish I dont have to worry

DSI deep water

I just returned a mark 4 DSI I do not recommend the DSI for saltwater applications over 50' deep, tried adjusting freq and brightness very difficult to pick up bottom structure in deep water, in shallow water it was awesome incredible detail.

I picked the gold unit from west marine. I have used it twice and am happy with it. I read somewhere on here about issue with dsi. They have or had them in stock at the Newport store. When I purchased mine two weeks ago.

Damn I was really hoping to buy new from the company. I'm gonna need to look for a used hds now

easyday 02-02-2014 07:02 AM

West marine im almost positive was having 100 bucks off the hds right now

Jimmyz123 02-02-2014 07:24 AM

I vote for the DSI, I really like the Down and side imaging, but when depths get beyond 100' you also have to learn how to read the regular fish finding systems. If you rely only on the Down and Side imaging, you're missing out.

If you have the money go for the DSI.

Check Bass Pro Shops, you can setup 6 Month pay if you call them and place the order. Even if it's not posted on the web site, you can still do the 6 month pay.

Yes.....my bad

William Novotny 02-02-2014 09:13 AM

Yeah I got pretty good at reading standard sonar with the humminbird 386ci. If I can't find a used hds 5 then I'll get the elite 5 hdi and just use standard in deep water.

Those ones are the hdi models the ones you posted are dsi or traditional
