Lost another one

Still oit at DP but had to share just hooked a legal halibut got him boat side all was good went to gaff got him went to put the game clip in and he flipped out broke my fish finder mount and he would have took my gaff if it wasnt connected to my yak so yer another disappointing day of fishing I can jook em I just cant capitalize hopefully ill actually get to keep one soon. At least I got one step closer than the last halibut I caught.

I can't help but laugh and feel horrible all at once reading your posts over the last weeks. The big one is coming, you are just storing up the karma.

easyday 06-09-2013 03:51 PM

I know its coming to the point where its funny

DanaPT 06-09-2013 04:02 PM

oh man, tough luck. It's kind of funny how you can hook em but can't land them.

Soon enough, you'll get the deal closed.

painful to read your posts about the ones that get away.

Cracking up right now. I feel bad for you bro. Still a little jealous about how much time you spend on the water though. Hey I think I'm gonna hit La Jolla on Sunday, you interested?

You're due for a record fish. You'll get it.

Think about becoming a doctor--you have great patience. :)

Like your flag says KCCO!

exfactor 06-09-2013 08:06 PM

if you start taking your time to locate their gut, and stick em there first, you won't have that problem anymore. They will freeze on the gaff, and stay that way, until you take them off. feel's bad when you put a hole in them, and then they swim away.

easyday 06-09-2013 08:37 PM

Yea I tried but as soon as I got him next to my yak he went airborne then dove it did this 3 or 4 times and was still for even a second.

Ouch... Sorry to hear.

When you gaff halibut, don't bring it on board - let it hang on the gaff while you're running the gameclip through his mouth. When roped, then you should be good to pull up

Its all a learning experience. Everytime I go out it seems im learning something.

alanw 06-09-2013 09:44 PM

You did better than me today. After you paddled off I fished off doheny a bit longer and then the harbor a bit, no bites. Then I went over to the rock piles off doheny and kept one eye on those swells. The sun broke through for a while at around 4, and around that time I hooked up a few short calicos, 11-12".

There's a net behind you...considering your luck lately it would have probably been better to net him, then smash his brain boat side. Oh well, live and learn.
