Tips-Fishing Shelter Island

Depending on how work goes today, I might try launching from shelter island. Any tips for rig, or areas to target? I've never fished the area, any help would be appriciated!

Both ends of the island have shallow shoals that produce a lot of spots. Also there are a lot clam beds around. The Sandbass hold on them pretty well. I like to throw 5"-6" swim baits paired with an 1oz- 1 1/2oz jig heads. On the shoals I throw a 4" swim with a 1/2oz lead head. Greens and silvers are good colors.

Hmm, need a partner? I might be able to make it out there after work as well. What time do you anticipate hitting the water?

Depends on how I'm feeling after work. I might not even be in the mood to drive to Southbay, then back north. If i do go, ill be on the water by 1700...and you're ofcourse more than welcome to join me.

Thanks man. I noticed barracuda are starting to show in LJ, do they have a presence at the mouth of the bay?

There are barracuda all in the bay. As far as the bigger ones schooling in the mouth, I can not answer that. I would be lying if I said yah or nah.
