First trip in 2021! Launched at 0900. Water temp was about 60 degrees. With a wnw and w swell (each less than 1 foot but at 4s interval) it was a little choppy launch but the ride was good most the day. Snagged my only sabiki so I had to commit to plastics early. Tried out dropshotting for the first time with a 6” scented white jerk bait. Came up with a Calico and a Barracuda at the NW corner.
The afternoon took a turn for the worse with the wind picking up. Pairing that with the short interval swell made a pretty precarious trip back. I never have stability issues with the Shearwater 125 but today there were a few close calls pedaling in. Ultimately I was trying to target Halibut. I found some sandy bottoms denoted by the yellow bottom returns on the FF. Looked like a couple thin arches just on the bottom but no Halibut on the line. Any input on what I should be looking at on the FF for Halibut? |
Look for bait balls hugging the bottom and drop down through then. Also look for sandy stress around structure in my experience. I have also got a few halibut when I was rockfishing. Good by catch lol.

Thanks for the input. I might hang it up until March 1 when Rockfish opens back up. And the squid start showing up...
