HDS 4.0 Software

The 4.0 software update is available on the Lowrance website. It has some important fixes (lag/freeze) in it. I only got a chance to use it for a couple hours on Sat., but I already noticed a difference.

did u get the down scan imaging with the upgrade and did u get to test drive it

The downscan has been available for all the units, but I don't have the hardware for it. The upgrade does allow the 5 and 7s to split the screen 3 ways now though if you are set up for down and/or side scanning.

Thanks Greg for the heads up, just bought one, I'll check it out.

Has anyone has any problems performing the 4.0 software update on their HDS 5 ?
-------------------------------------------------------------

I am familiar with the update procedure Video posted on the Lowrance website, and have used it to update my unit once before - but the 4.0 will not upload to my HDS 5 Nautic Insight.

I downloaded the 4.0 software onto 2 separate SD Cards and tried both of them - no luck. Then I took both of the cards to Westmarine and tried doing the upload on 2 of their display units - still no luck.
-None of the units I tried would display the prompts and walk me through the upload as it has done in the past.

I'm wondering if Lowrance has a bad download posted on their website.

Any ideas what is happening ?
Billy

No problems here... I bought an old regular SD card for the updates (vs HC) because I read somewhere that HC won't work.

Billy V 05-28-2011 08:11 PM

I'm trying it again now. I bought a card reader and will use my Mac to download and upload the 4.0

Maybe my friend missed a step with his PC.

I will advise.

The update instructions are not very clear from the Lowrance website. As Wade stated, you have to download the file from their site, then run the downloaded file to uncompress the files. Then save those files to your SD card.

Success
Upgrade complete.

-You know what they say.... If you want something done right - do it yourself.

It turns out the expert government computer troubleshooter (by profession) that loaded the 4.0 file onto the SD card for me did it WRONG.
-and swore it was not the card.
-and swore he conformed it was on the card properly:rolleyes:

Hmmm...I'm startin' to think he doesn't want me to catch fish.
