Fish I_

Went to la Jolla today. Epic conditions! Sunny, calm, smooth. Tons of bait, tons of birds, at least 8 grey whales moving about. But the water was an ugly green and the current was slow. Caught tons of green backs, a few sardines, and a huge 2lbs + Spanish Mac, but i also caught a few dozen of these blue sardine like fishes. Anyone know what it is? (Bottom of the two) Didn't last well in the bait tank. All rolled after 15 min.
As far as the real catch goes...One small 20 lbs black seabass, one 16" calico, and one sculpin, all safely released.

Sardine on top, herring on bottom.

I thought herring too, but the Pacific herring doesn't have the blue color, and the slender body

You thought right, herring.
