Normally don't have a lot to post, as I'm still learning...

Launched with EntropyFletch off of north Shelter Island around 6am. Made a loop out towards the bait barge, around ballast point, and back along north island. Pretty much everywhere we hit, fish were biting hard. When it stopped we moved. Started off on a three inch halloween swimbait and 1/4 oz lead head on 10lb. Never changed from it. between two of us we landed about 60 bass, mostly spotties, with some calico and a couple sandies mixed in. Went through a lot of chewed up baits.

Across the channel spotties were firing in 7-9 feet of water right on either side of slack tide at about 10am. Had multiple back-to-back, back-to-back-back hookups.

Made a couple of drifts with bait and also picked up a legal butt along the way.

One of the more fun days of bay fishing. Go get em.

Nice spread of species represented!

Great day! I want to get out there, but not sure where to launch. Where exactly did you launch? The closer to the bait barge the better. Thanks!

is the south end of the bay closed to fishing?

EntropyFletch 05-25-2016 02:48 PM

Ya that was a good day! Bass thumb and all...

All three species of bass represented, 4 halibut between us, and even a rockfish. Didn't go for very long without tight lines.

Nice work on the Hali Ian.

There is a section in the very southern part of the bay that is closed to fishing. This area is marked as part of the San Diego Bay Wildlife Refuge. Its really shallow down there anyway so not it not the best spot to fish. I just fished the Coronado Cayes, I am planning on heading back in a couple weeks, looking for a bonefish!

Phishphood - Well done presenting your case and not caving under all the cross-examination.

Your Sentence: Relax, Go kayak fishing, be safe and give the seals NOTHING!... and enjoy learning with the rest of us!
