Dana Point

Headed out to DP to see what's going on. Water had a lot of debris floating around and was a bit muddy near the mouth of the harbor. At 7:30 there was no wind, the water was lumpy but smooth. Bait was a mix of anchovies and sardines, mostly anchovies, but they were in good condition.

Headed north to just past the point and fished some of the structure in about 45'. Lots of mackerel, hard to get a bait past them. did manage a small sandy and something much larger that broke my 15# line, grrrrr.

Wind picked up so I headed back towards the pipeline, nada, and it got a tad rough so I decided to call it a day. Caught a couple of short bass then called it a day.

Hey I was at Dana Point on Friday too on my Solo skiff. Lots of mackerel and quite a few small barracuda especially under the birds. You might have gotten a bite from one of those toothy guys.

The couple of bass I scratched up were short and well fed. Lots of bait in the water.

Good to see a report. Any speculation on the big one that got away?:linesnap:

Based on how it fought, I'd say a pretty large bass, or smaller BSB, or maybe even a smaller sized WSB. But that's not to say it was.

I think I'm going to up my light line setup to 20# or 25# leader.
